This is one of my go-to meals when I am too tired to cook, or when I need something quick and easy that I know the kids will eat well. I usually make this if I am going out for the night and the kids are staying behind because I know it will be eaten without any problems. This is true homemade mac and cheese with a delicious white sauce. You can make it as fancy or as simple as you want. The kids love it with hot dogs in it, but you can omit them if you want, or even just serve them on the side. I grew up eating it with hot dogs, and so did my kids. Feel free to make it however you enjoy! It may seem difficult to make mac and cheese from scratch, but it is really simple. It also tastes so much better than from a box, and it is a lot more filling. I like to serve this with a fruit or a vegetable. Hope you love this recipe as much as my family does!
Preparation:
1. Cook the Macaroni Noodles according to package directions. Drain when the noodles are done. I usually cook the hot dogs in the pot with the noodles to save on time and extra dishes.
2. Make the sauce while the pasta is cooking. Turn the stove onto a medium heat and melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the Flour and stir it with a whisk until it is smooth. Cook it for 2 minutes.
3. Add the Milk and stir it constantly while cooking on a medium temperature. If you want to speed it up you can turn up the temperature, but just make sure you are stirring it so it doesn’t scorch to the bottom of the pan. Cook it until it starts to thicken.
4. Add the Shredded Cheese and the Garlic Salt. Stir them in till the cheese is melted and smooth.
5. Add the Cheese sauce to the Macaroni Noodles. If you add the Hot Dogs, then cut them into bite-sized pieces and add them to the Mac and Cheese and stir them in.
6. Serve and enjoy!
