This is a fun tradition that my grandma started and has been carried on through the years. She used to make these cookies to pass out to trick-or-treaters and they were the hit of the neighborhood! I grew up making these cookies every year and now my kids get to enjoy the tradition. We used to make faces on the cookies, but my kids have broadened it and made different themes and designs. All kids love making these from small children to teenagers. You can use this as a Halloween party idea or as a family fun night. You can use any kinds of candy that you enjoy and get creative with it. I have my go-to candy that I use every year, but you can do it any way you like. The Sugar Cookies that this recipe comes with are soft and delicious! They don’t spread and they have a buttery, perfect flavor. I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!

Ingredients:

Soft Sugar Cookies

1 c. Salted Butter

2-8 oz. Packages Cream Cheese

2 c. Sugar

3 Eggs

1 tsp. Baking Powder

1 tsp. Baking Soda

1 tsp. Salt

1 tsp. Vanilla

6-7 c. Flour

Bake at 350°F for 10-11 minutes

Cream Cheese Frosting

½ c. Salted Butter

8 oz. Cream Cheese

2 tsp. Vanilla

¼ c. Milk

3-4 c. Powdered Sugar

Candy Toppings

Candy Pumpkins

Candy Corn

M&M’s

Pull and Peel Licorice

Skittles

Dots

Smarties

Sour Gummy Worms

Preparation:

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

2. In a large mixing bowl cream the Butter, Cream Cheese, and the Sugar. Mix it really well.

3. Add the Eggs and mix well.

4. Add the Baking Soda, Baking Powder, Salt, and the Vanilla. Mix well.

5. Add the Flour and mix it well. The dough should be stiff and not sticky. You should be able to roll it out on a floured surface without it sticking.

6. Roll the Dough out on a floured surface. You can use Halloween shaped cookie cutters. We like to make pumpkins, ghost, witches, and bats. Place them on a greased baking sheet.

7. Bake the cookies for 10-11 minutes. The bottoms will be lightly golden brown, but the top should still be white. Remove them from the oven and cool the cookies on a cooling rack.

8. Make the Cream Cheese Frosting by combining the Butter, Cream Cheese, Milk, Vanilla, and the Powdered Sugar. Add Orange Food Coloring.

9. Frost the cookies and have fun decorating them with candy.

10. Serve and enjoy!
