Beef and Sausage wrapped Hot Dogs
This is a recipe that came from my great grandma many years ago. This is a meal that I loved when I was growing up, and still love today. It is a fun and easy dinner that the kids love! The Ground Beef mixed with sausage gives it a delicious flavor. This is a hearty meal that will fill you up! It isn’t the healthiest, but I love to make it once in awhile for the kids. I like to serve this with French Fries and a fruit or vegetable salad. I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!
Preparation:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Mince an Onion or you can use dried Minced Onion as a substitute.
3. In a mixing bowl combine the Egg, ½ c. Tomato Sauce, and the Onion. Stir it together. If you use dried Onion, then let it sit for 4-5 minutes before adding the meat.
4. Add the Ground Beef, Sausage, Dry Bread Crumbs, Parmesan Cheese, and the Basil. Mix it well.
5. Take 1/2 -3/4 c. meat mixture and flatten it out in your hand. See the picture for an example. Then wrap it around the Hot Dog. Place it on a baking sheet or a broiler pan. Repeat for the remaining hot dogs.
6. Bake for 45 minutes. While it is baking in a small mixing bowl combine ½ c. Tomato Sauce, Sugar, and the Vinegar. Stir it together.
7. Remove the Hot Dogs from the oven after the 45 minutes and baste the tomato sauce mixture on each hot dog. Then place the hot dogs back in the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes. Remove them from the oven.
8. Serve and enjoy!
